Competitors Earn Pentathlon Medals and Set Their Sights on Beijing

USA Pentathlon Press Release: November 26, 2007

Margaux Isaksen  (Fayetteville, Ark.), took the Women's gold medal and Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.), took the Men's silver medal at the 2007 Open South American Modern Pentathlon Championships held over the weekend in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

These former Pony Clubbers have their sights set on qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Highlights from Festival ...

Four Senior Boys competed, with each taking a First Place ribbon in the Ride, Run, Shoot and Swim.

• Ride : Chris Hassoon, Middle California Region

• Run : Mark Schmid, Mid South Region

• Shoot : Reed Dove, Virginia Region

• Swim : Jenkins Dove, Virginia Region

This may be the only time in USPC Tetrathlon Champs history that each competitor in the Division was awarded a Phase ribbon ... and took the Senior Boys down to the wire to see who would win the Overall (Strassberger) Award.

Strassberger Award   (High Point Senior Boy) : Reed Dove, Virginia Region

Dunlop Award   (High Point Senior Girl) : Alessandra Accinelli, Sierra Pacific Region

Many of the Championship competitors participated in the Tetrathlon Camp ... with almost a dozen competitors continuing on to Canada to participate in Tetrathlon and Pentathlon competitions with our northern neighbors.
